Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
