British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up the current season and plans to retain trainer into the 2026 season.
The British player made it to the third stage in three of the four Grand Slam events during the season.
Emma Raducanu from Great Britain has withdrawn from her final two events this season due to a health issue that has affected her for the last week and a half.
Raducanu, aged 22 was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to recover prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.
These plans will involve coach Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering again next season.
Raducanu required blood pressure checks during her first-round match versus Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and retired when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
She needed once more a doctor's assessment at this week's Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in round one.
Her movement was noticeably restricted in the final set in the match with Zhu because of the lower back problem that has affected her on several occasions in 2025.
Those results signaled a promising season, in which the player advanced into the world's top 30 for the first time since her previous ranking, concluded with three straight losses.
She held three match points before losing to Pegula in round three in the Beijing tournament last month.
She secured 28 victories in the current season and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami Open in March.
Ranked first in Britain made the last eight of this WTA 1000 tournament, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route then falling in a three-set match to Pegula, ranked fourth.
She was coached by Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role in time for the US Open.
The original arrangement with the former trainer of Nadal was for the remainder of the year but they will keep working together, with a training block pencilled in late this year.
She mentioned that the trial session alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "black ops mission" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
She came very close to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.
The coach also accompanied Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage prior to losing to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
