In late 2018, Steve Bannon, previously Donald Trump's chief strategist, visited the UK preparing for a speech at the prestigious Oxford Union.

The speech was interrupted by hundreds of protesters, and Bannon, scheduled to travel that night, informed Jeffrey Epstein in an message: "Protesters slowed down my talk I doubt I can catch the flight we r enroute to the airport".

Epstein responded: "That. Is a Gulf Air departing at 9:50 with a layover in Bahrain". Bannon answered: "U r an excellent assistant".

These messages were published on this week together with over 20,000 documents from the estate of Epstein, the late convicted sex offender.

The disclosure by the Congressional committee includes an text conversation where Bannon's identity is redacted. The BBC has been able to confirm his identity by matching the timeline, occurrences, and places referenced.

For instance, Epstein discusses arranging a jet from the UK for the unnamed individual in the chat, and commends their "Oxford speech". Bannon participated in the News Xchange conference on November 14, and delivered the talk at the Oxford on November 16.

Bannon, who is not accused of any wrongdoing, did not reply on the inquiry.

'I'll make sure you're well looked after'

Bannon was one of Trump's key aides in the lead-up to the presidential election and in the early days of his first administration, but resigned from the administration in August 2017.

He has acknowledged he was making a film about Epstein before his death and allegedly has approximately 15 hours of recordings. In a recording of his show recently, he said: "We're going to release the series, the five-part series, in the coming year - early next year."

But the recently disclosed documents indicate Bannon's connection with Epstein extended than documenting his life, with the convicted paedophile occasionally appearing to serve like a personal assistant.

A few days before the exchange in which Epstein seemed to arranged a charter jet for Bannon, Epstein remarked: "how does it feel to have the highest-paid travel agent in history ".

Bannon thanked him: "U r quite capable assistant", to which Epstein replied "Therapies. Excluded".

Discussing a trip to "Abu Dhabi" in another message, Epstein told Bannon: "I will ensure you're taken care of."

British Affairs Mentioned in Exchanges

The released messages also reveal Bannon and Epstein discussing British political matters in that year.

On the same day his speech at the Oxford Union, Bannon texted Epstein: "I've gotten pulled into the EU exit thing this morning with Nigel, Boris and Mogg."

Then, in what appears to be a reference to Theresa May, the embattled UK prime minister at the period, he continued: "They are trying to move on. may soon…"

Epstein suggested Bannon: "In my view staying as much as you can uk. Best-- so others get the dedication of your follow-up."

Shortly after, Epstein inquired: "Will Theresa may survive". Bannon replied: "It seems unlikely however the people here have no balls" and added "Boris ; Michael Gove; Rees Mogg; David Davis - someone has to step up".

May was eventually toppled in May 2019 after withstanding two votes of lack of support in late 2018.

A spokesman for Reform UK informed the BBC: "Nigel Farage has not been in a gathering with Bannon, Jacob Rees Mogg and Johnson." And there is no evidence such a meeting took place.

The Congress will vote next week on whether the Department of Justice should release all its records related to its investigation into Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.

Attention in Epstein's relationships with influential individuals was renewed this week after the publication of over 20,000 pages from his archives.

Some of those referenced the former president, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The president was a acquaintance of Epstein's for years, but says they parted ways in the 2000s, a couple of years before Epstein was initially charged.
