Keeper Mary Earps has publicly stated that her freshly launched autobiography was not created to “tear anyone down” and expressed concern that public reaction has been “misinterpreted.”

The ex-Lionesses goalkeeper, who had a vital part in the championship win, received criticism from fans and Blues coach Sonia Bompastor after sharing views about former team-mate Hannah Hampton and head coach Sarina Wiegman.

In her book, Earps allegedly stated told Wiegman she was “encouraging negative conduct” by bringing Hampton back to the Lionesses lineup after leaving her out for being “problematic and undependable.”

“The response has been immense to see how some things have been distorted,” Earps stated publicly.

Clarifying Her Purpose

Earps firmly declared that her memoir was never intended to harm individuals.

She explained it was “not an abrupt downfall” in their dynamic—just a divergence in opinions—and she still respects the manager.

“Certain events that happened in the summer that I wish had happened differently,” Earps stated.

In her book, Earps discussed openly the harassment she endured at in her younger years, describing it as a “really hard” section to read again because it brought back previous trauma.

These feelings led to anxiety episodes, and Earps disclosed she struggled with physical appearance and used alcohol during the Covid pandemic to handle mental health struggles.

Earps recently shared that she is in a relationship with a woman and stated she is proud about her partnership.

She also talked about her wish to have children and revealed she has undergone egg freezing for potential family planning.

“I would love to be a parent and have a family,” Earps stated. “I enjoy my football career, but I hope to have a child at a later stage.”

Earps portrayed the egg-freezing procedure as “overwhelming and personal” and pushed for more investigation tailored to athletes undergoing equivalent processes.
