Citizens have assembled around the country to mark two years since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the most deadliest day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered trustworthy by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also pledged to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will never again pose a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership postponed formal commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held around the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was aired on Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was observed throughout the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas representatives gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the agreement.

A prominent representative involved in the discussions revealed that an night meeting of indirect talks started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source stated the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence hostilities after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet produce any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are working hard to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Critical Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent truce
  • The exchange of the prisoners still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies distribution
  • Post-war management of the region

Civilian Reaction

In Tel Aviv's public square that day, young Hagar - whose sibling endured the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were captured by Hamas militants - explained: "No location feels like home now and until all the hostages return none of us will feel safe."

"When we see all home once more, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says nearly fifty remain in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Demonstrator one woman explained: "It's necessary do every compromise needed for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about seventy percent of Israelis desire the hostilities to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the site of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to remember the victims.

From that location, the sound of aerial bombardments and artillery could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers said the intense Israeli bombardment persisted.

In Gaza City, bombardments were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side district, sector and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the night arrives, the dread comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, explained.

"We are afraid of the bombings. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, notably my smallest child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we look at the reports to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Health Emergency

The healthcare center in the urban area reported it had taken in the corpses of six people by the midday, including a trio killed in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the south region of the city said two more dead people had been brought there. One of them was died by Israeli soldiers while seeking help to the south, medics said.

The region's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
