LA Faces Unprecedented Heat Only One Week Following Major Winter Weather.
After enduring torrential rains that led to inundation across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally hot temperatures for late February.
Record-Shattering Heat
On Friday midday, the thermometer soared to 91°F (33°C) in central LA, per data from weather officials. This easily surpasses the previous daily record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on NWS graphics for the region.
Safety Advisories
Authorities stated that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance suggested:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
An Extreme Shift
This sharp rise in mercury comes on the heels of a intense storm system that battered the region earlier in the week. That event brought heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, triggering mudslide risks for countless residents.

Forecast Ahead
The outlook suggests cooler conditions is coming. The heat were forecast to decrease to around 61°F (16°C) in the city by Friday night.
Several cities that hit ninety degrees were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were forecast to see the upper eighties.
For the weekend, downtown LA can expect weather in the 80s, with cooler weather expected for the following week.
