Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the region, generating powerful gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Widespread Impact

Locals witnessed giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts confirmed that various areas across the state had been affected by large hailstones.

Utility workers were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams activated to handle the widespread outages.

Victorian Weather Woes

Simultaneously, around one thousand energy customers in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

During the peak on the previous day, more than 28,000 power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the most rainy day, with persistent severe weather risk expected across different parts of both regions.

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.
