The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
His passing follows shortly after he debuted his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes established him as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
