The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
