The Gruesome Cartoon Film Ending That Stays With Audiences
Out of every mature cartoon movies I’ve personally viewed, nothing has remained with me as much as the dread-soaked finale of a graphically gory and deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker created a grim, somber , frequently brutal world with a few small , desolate twinges of hope.
While The Unicorn Wars appears as it came from a desire to advance animation even more, the director stated that it was more an effort to convey a global, multicultural theme regarding “the mutual source of all wars.”
That idea is conveyed via a band of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously based on a famous line of lovable characters.
Growing up in a culture built around aggression as well as the war machine, many of these creatures are fixated on killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a religious scripture that claims them they previously were masters of the woodland, until these creatures drove them out.
Some have not completely fallen for the propaganda, , choose to experiment with substances or engage sexually in the forest.
Unlike their friendly counterparts, these vivid animals have visible sexual organs , clear sex drives.
For a certain notably brutal, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the battle with the unicorns turns into a route to power — and especially to supremacy above his more tender, nicer brother Tubby.
This bear acts as a tormentor and a seeming psychopath , and when horror dominates his unit and claims his teammates sequentially, he grabs progressively influence for himself, through ever more bloody, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the unicorns are suffering their own terror, in the form of a spreading, destructive monster in their forest.
“In the early stages, it seems like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker stated. “But then it evolves into a more intense and sad film. And in the finale, it’s a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars commences resembling one of the most playful features from an iconic filmmaker, that uncover a mischievous joy in allowing animated figures swear, engage in violence, or engage sexually.
Subsequently it evolves into closer to a darker work by that same creator, including ever more graphic violence , a noticeable link to the actual tragedy of war.
By the end, it is a complete theatrical horror carnage.
The horror which makes this a Halloween-friendly watch kicks in well before than one might expect.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore gorehounds, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who want to see a movie they’ve never viewed until now, and who can handle a story which delivers unflinching brutality.
See it in a dark room without any distractions, and that ending will burrow into your mind and stay with you.
