The United Kingdom Set to Use Frozen Russia's Holdings to Fund the Ukrainian War Effort
The UK is ready to advance with employing the full worth of seized Russia's assets to support the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a collective announcement, the officials of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to come to the table.
They added that the decision would be implemented in tight collaboration with the United States.
British restrictions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russia's resources since the Russian government launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, resources allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russia's funds had only been drawn from profits and interest accrued on them.
Sir Keir informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their goal to push forward toward employing the complete amount of the seized Russian sovereign funds to halt hostilities.
He added that further sanctions soon would increase the strain on Russia.
This declaration comes after European representatives met in the Danish capital last week to consider using seized Russian assets for a €140 billion credit to Ukraine.
Last month, US President Donald Trump encouraged Group of Seven partners to confiscate or utilize frozen Russia's funds, based on reports.
The worth of frozen Russia's assets in the Europe is assessed to be almost €211bn.

Russia carried out extensive missile and drone strikes throughout the Ukrainian territory on recently, causing blackouts in significant regions of the capital city, Kyiv, and eight other regions.
Several persons were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the strike, authorities in Ukraine reported.
In a message on social media subsequent to the strike, Zelensky commented that the cynical and calculated attack targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.
"What's needed is not just talk but firm measures - from the America, EU, and the Group of Seven - in delivering defense mechanisms and applying penalties," he wrote.
"Each restrictive measure undermines Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky declared, in a additional update.
In the same period, Zelensky stated to media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to join the Purl scheme, under which partner nations buy arms from the America to provide to Ukraine.
While praising the United Kingdom's firm backing for the Ukrainian government, he noted it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the system, as well as enforce additional restrictions on Russia.
